A Loss and a Celebration

Hi there, everyone. I'm sorry that it has been awhile since we've posted anything - the past few weeks have been crazy. We were ecstatic to hear from our adoption agency that a birth mom wanted to meet us. The week waiting to meet her felt like an eternity! We spent almost 3 hours with her, getting to know each other and making plans for her baby boy due in June. We were texting with her in the days afterwards and everything seemed to be progressing well. We were finally going to become parents, and soon!

However, several days later, we learned from our agency that she had changed her mind. We knew this was a possibility and had tried to be prepared for it, but the pain and disappointment are still very deep. We've been trying to take time over the past week or so to mourn this loss. Thankfully, we have a God who not only cares for us in our mourning, but who has experienced it Himself. In Isaiah 53, we see that Jesus was a "man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief... he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows." He went through the ultimate loss, the loss of His perfect communion with the Father, so that even though we are sinners, we can be made righteous in Christ and be brought into that perfect relationship with the Father. "He was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed."

So today, we celebrate what Jesus has done for us and that we have a loving God who is close to us when we are broken and hurting. We are also celebrating David's 30th birthday! When you're going through a time of waiting, birthdays can be another reminder that time is ticking on and you are still.... just.... waiting.... Although he is hurting as well, David has been so incredibly strong and faithful through this whole journey of infertility and adoption - I could write an entire book about what a wonderful man of God and husband he is (and what an amazing father he will be!)

Please help me shower him with love this week! Send him an email with a prayer or message of encouragement at dawright14@gmail.com. If you'd like to give him a gift, consider making a donation to our adoption fund in honor of his birthday.
